The Teton County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit will be hosting the 17th annual NPCA K-9 narcotics, patrol, tracking, and bomb seminar and certification.  The K-9 certification is sponsored by National Police Canine Association (NPCA).  This three and a half day seminar includes 24 hours of  POST credit.  The dates are May 8-11, 2018 (Tuesday thru Friday), in Jackson, Wyoming.  The cost is $220.00.  The NPCA seminar always provides ample time for hands on dog training, problem solving and field practical’s.  Lodging information will be forwarded upon request.  If you plan to attend, have any questions, or need more information, please call or email:  Detective David Hodges at or K9 Sgt. Decision/ Helper class Sunday and Monday before the K9 seminar begins in Jackson. The cost is $100.00 for the two day class or $80.00 if attending the seminar and paying the $220.00 seminar registration. 

This class will entail educating the canine team Helper in understanding and utilizing the environment. The class will teach them how the environment may affect the Canines performance.

Basic decoy skills, setting Tracks, setting Drug and Explosives hides, Building and Area Search. 

Deadline for registration is April 01 for the Helpers class


The Greeley Police Department K9 Unit is hosting Jeff Schettler of a 5 day urban tracking school.  It’s a great school to learn how to track in an urban environment and how to tactically mitigate the risks involved.

Dates April 20-25  Hours 0800-1700

Location The Greeley Police Department Firearms Range and different locations around Greeley CO.

GAK9 Trailing & Combat/Tactical Tracker School

5-Day Basic Course with PowerPoint and video Classroom Presentation 

Training including:  Scent Discrimination,  Urban trailing techniques,  Scent evidence Collection,  Handling and equipment, Contaminated Suburban trailing,  Terrain, Age and Distance, Scent pools, Multiple suspects, High risk tracking tactics/tracking teams and perimeter, K9 Proximity alerts 

And more…..  Half of the first day is class room and the rest is hands on tracking/trailing training.  There are only going to be 5 dog and handler teams allowed in the class.  This gives us lots of time for training every one.
